Masters

David Robinson. David who is supported by his wife Marion, has been a member of the Mid Surrey Draghounds for over 25 years and started his Mastership in 1981 with Douglas Bunn, Edward Cazalet and Philip Kindersey.

David is a highly successful point-to-point jockey and farms large areas of the South Downs at Lewes and Dallington with a beef herd of over 400 mainly British White cattle.

Peter Webb. Peter again is an ex-point to point jockey who joined the Mastership in 1989, Peter looks after the country from Hickstead to the Ardingly area and North to Horne. He serves on the Committee of the Masters of Draghounds and Bloodhounds Association and runs the annual Point to Point at Godstone.

Fred French. Fred French is also our Huntsman, he is lead rider with the famous and highly successful Boring Goring Team Chasers who compete regularly throughout the spring and autumn. Fred also farms 4000 acres in Kent, his farming in direct contrast to David’s is intense arable. Fred, along with Barry our linesman, and the Master of the day, walks and prepares every line before each day’s sport.

Stuart Robinson. Stuart joined the Mastership for the season 2008 / 2009. Stuart is a staunch supporter of Point to Pointing in the South East area and is a former area champion.

Whipper Ins
David Betts who farms in Kent mainly cereals. David and Caroline produce some of the finest Turkeys in the South. David also finds time to organise a number of lines particularly in the Underriver area.
We are also fortunate to be able to call upon the very able and experienced services of a number of our subscribers who are very capable of assisting Fred with the hounds. These include Garth Gosdon and Dudley Pinney who is a former Huntsman of the Drag and on occasions Colin Baker, who being injured, missed last season but we are ever hopeful that he may get back into the saddle and join us again.

Linesman – Barry Slater. As linesman to Barry falls the unenviable job of walking or running each and every line we jump, laying a trail for our hounds to follow. Barry works for the NFU in Edenbridge Kent and is an extremely fit man – his sport, out of season, is walking in the Himalayas or any other remote area he can access.

Secretary / Finances – Mrs Jenny Donegan. Mrs Jenny Donegan, Jenny has done many years of sterling work ensuring that the Mid Surrey Farmers Draghounds is in sound working order and she sweeps up behind all the fund raising events. Jenny’s late husband Des was a joint Master of the Drag for many years and between them they have been stalwart backers of the Drag with so much unseen work being carried out behind the scenes.

Finances - Neville Blake. Neville and his wife Pat have for many years supported the Drag with the finances behind the scenes at Point to Points and Neville now supports Jenny in preparing the Drag accounts and the running of the day to day finances for the Drag and it's various events.
Chairman. Philippa Marshall who served as a Master from 1987-2000. Known fondly as ‘The Dragon’ Philippa’s father the Hon Phillip Kindersley restarted the Mid Surrey Farmers Drag hounds after the 2nd World War in 1947. Philippa’s strong relationships with her farmers is legendary and for many years she and Harry Street walked and prepared every line, her knowledge and common sense are valued by all.

Vice Chairman. George Goring MBE. George has hunted with and  supported the Mid Surrey Draghounds for many years. He was a founder member of the Boring Gorings Team Chasers Team with his brother Richard, now having recently celebrated his 70th birthday George still rides out with the drag showing all his original style and panache crossing country.

Douglas Bunn – The Master of Hickstead. Deceased - Former Chairman.
Douglas needs little introduction his contribution to the Mid Surrey Draghounds as both Master and Chairman have been immense and of longstanding. Douglas and his family have welcomed us over their land and regularly in their famous ‘Conservatory’ for teas and meetings for many a season. Two of his daughters, Chole and Daisy together with Chole’s husband Shane, the Irish International show jumper also ride out with the drag and we continue to enjoy the support for the whole family in keeping Hickstead open for drag hunting despite all their other commitments.

Douglas Bunn sadly passed away this summer, please click here to read his obituary.

Sadly the Drag also lost three former members this year. Dennis Fisher, John Lloyd and Nigel Budd.
